Why Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach Is Sizzling Hot

Patrick Meyer

Located 53 miles north of Miami is Delray Beach, a lively South Florida community between Boca Raton and West Palm Beach known as “Florida’s Village by the Sea” due to its small-town charm with a touch of big-city feel by the seaside.

At the heart of Delray Beach is Atlantic Avenue, which runs from Interstate 95 all the way to Delray Beach’s sun-kissed shoreline. Considered the city’s main street, Atlantic Avenue is the area that makes up Delray Beach’s well-known vibrant downtown atmosphere. Explore Atlantic Avenue while you’re browsing Delray Beach luxury homes for sale and you’ll quickly see why Atlantic Avenue is the hottest place in town!

Superb shopping

The shopping at Atlantic Avenue is top-notch, with incredible stores where you’ll find everything you’re looking for. There are countless unique luxury boutiques with beautiful clothing like Mare Blu, Morley, Tommy Bahama, Shoes ’n’ More, and Love Shack that will elevate your closet. You will also find well-known brands like Urban Outfitters and Chico’s, and other boutique stores where you’ll find great gifts and home goods like Coco & Co., Stitches by the Sea, and SPICE. Looking for a last-minute bathing suit or surf equipment? No worries at all — most of the clothing boutiques have bathing suits, and the Quiet Storm Surf Shop will take care of all your must-have beach accessories.

If you’re looking for a special shopping experience, Serenity & Tea by the Sea is not only a charming boutique filled with local art, handmade gifts, accessories, and clothing. It’s also a tea house where you can enjoy a great selection of tea, coffee, and pastries on their patio.

Splendid dining and nightlife

Atlantic Avenue is full of amazing restaurants offering all kinds of cuisine for every occasion. There are way too many, and that’s a good thing! Whether you’re looking for a casual spot to grab a bite or an elegant restaurant to have a fine dining experience, Atlantic Avenue has a wide variety of restaurants to satisfy all of your worldly cravings.

You will find a grand assortment of wonderful seafood restaurants (obviously!), such as City Oyster & Sushi Bar, known for its fresh seafood, its full sushi bar, and a rotating selection of fresh oysters from the East and West coasts. The restaurant features outdoor seating and a bustling bar scene and has a bakery upstairs that provides all of their house-made desserts, pies, bread, crackers, and pasta. Other local seafood favorites include J&J Seafood Bar and Grill, Mussel Beach, Lionfish, and Racks Fish House + Oyster Bar.

Craving some tasty European food? Amar Mediterranean Bistro draws inspiration from the Mediterranean lifestyle and serves modern adaptations of classic Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes. Besides serving mouth-watering meals, their restaurant is lovely to sit and look at as well. Meso Beach House is also another Mediterranean spot definitely worth your while. For classic Italian cuisine, visit the sophisticated Tramonti Ristorante or Elisabetta’s Ristorante to enjoy high-quality antipasti, salads, pasta, and pizza all in a vintage setting.

Atlantic Avenue also boasts restaurants with delicious Latino flavors. Locals love the empanadas, paellas, and tapas at the Cuban Cabana El Rey and also love eating authentic Mexican at the popular Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar, full of staple dishes like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and a drink menu to die for.

At Hawkers, you’ll enjoy the glory of Southeast Asian street food, exotic cocktails, and immaculate vibes. You’ll feel like you’re spending the night in Singapore, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. If that’s not enough to convince you, part of their brand identity consists of “Great Food. Delicious Drinks. Dope Atmosphere.”

Amidst plenty of seafood, the modern Cut 432 offers some of the best steak in town and other American classics. Another fabulous steakhouse is SALT7, a spot you’ll definitely want to stop by. Not only did Executive Chef Paul Niedermann win Season 9 of Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” but SALT7 is more than just a restaurant: their social lounge is home to some of the best nightlife in Atlantic Avenue.

For an exciting night out after dinner, you can also visit the intimate Honey — perfect for a night of dancing and live music that features a variety of hand-crafted cocktails. Hurricane Bar & Lounge is also a favorite for locals and out-of-towners.

Exciting events and entertainment

As if Atlantic Avenue’s culinary paradise weren’t enough to convince you it’s the place to be at Delray Beach, there are also plenty of fun activities to experience in this bustling street. The city of Delray Beach is known to host all kinds of events on Atlantic Avenue. Among the most popular ones is the family-friendly Art & Jazz on the Avenue, a closed street event where attendees spend an evening full of live music, art, culture, and special promotions by retailers and merchants. It’s always been a highlight for both locals and visitors alike and is hosted several times throughout the year. Delray Beach’s Fourth of July Celebration is specifically known for its spectacular fireworks. From day to night, it’s an unforgettable celebration for people of all ages with live entertainment, contests, delicious food, and much more.

Also, once a year is the Delray Beach Fashion Week, a handful of events that celebrate fashion, local designers, art, and beauty, and that takes place all around Downtown. With Atlantic Avenue’s top-tier restaurant collection, Restaurant Month is an event that’s best not to sleep on. It’s a month full of prix-fixe breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus highlighting the best Downtown restaurants, dine-out deals, and culinary events. It’s a delicious event you’ll be looking forward to every year, no doubt about it!

Since these are only some of the exciting events that take place on Atlantic Avenue, it’s of no surprise that the holidays at Delray Beach are also well-celebrated. The city has a lineup of festive events throughout December to make your holidays even sweeter. From parades to the Christmas tree lighting and more, Atlantic Avenue becomes the center of holiday spectacle at Delray Beach.

Art enthusiasts will love the several galleries that line Atlantic Avenue. Whether you’re looking to buy an art piece or simply appreciate its beauty, there are plenty of galleries to visit. Blue Gallery has several contemporary art galleries on Atlantic Avenue to showcase their diverse lineup of talented artists. Leclectic Collections is known as the most decorative art gallery in Delray Beach and features various works of art from artists from around the world. There’s also the DeBilzan Gallery, which represents the work of artist William DeBilzan, who has exhibited and is collected worldwide, and Sundook Fine Art Galleries, one of the premier fine art galleries in the country committed to representing world-renowned artists.

There is also public art throughout downtown, and Atlantic Avenue is home to several murals, sculptures, and installations. You can’t miss the Dancing Pineapples Mural at the Chloe Building, the Red & White Mural at Pour & Famous, or the Multicolored Spiral Mural at Leogane Market. An incredible way of enjoying the art throughout the Avenue and the rest of the city is by attending the First Friday Art Walk, a night stroll where you’ll discover Downtown’s vibrant art scene. This event takes place on the first Friday of the month from October to May, and it’s one you won’t want to miss.

Delray Public Beach

One of the best parts about Atlantic Avenue is that at the end of the road, you’ll find Delray Public Beach. Grab a good book on the way from Delray Beach Public Library and enjoy the best beach days with breathtaking ocean views while tanning, relaxing, and taking a dip in the pristine blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
